Sometimes you meet someone, and it’s so clear that the two of you, on some level belong together. As lovers, or as friends, or as family, or as something entirely different. You just work, whether you understand one another or you’re in love or you’re partners in crime. You meet these people throughout your life, out of nowhere, under the strangest circumstances, and they help you feel alive. I don’t know if that makes me believe in coincidence, or fate, or sheer blind luck, but it definitely makes me believe in something.

When I took guitar lessons back in middle school, I had this amazing teacher named Brittany. She was this tall red headed woman who never wore makeup or straightened her hair, and looking back now, she reminds me a lot of Donna from That 70s Show. Anyway, even though I wasn’t the best or even all that interested in guitar, I loved this teacher so much that I kept asking my mom to get more lessons. One day when I came in for my lesson, she gave me this Buddha pendant on a leather string. She had gotten it from somewhere she had visited, and I don’t remember the story behind it, but I have kept it with me ever since then. I’ve started wearing it a lot recently, and for some reason it just makes me feel calm and together. It’s the little things, the little memories, the way that something makes you feel that matters; I hope to keep this little treasure forever.
